Harvey Kaplan Named Best Boston Immigration Lawyer
Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected
peer review in the legal profession, has named Harvey Kaplan as " Boston Best
Lawyers Immigration Lawyer of the Year for 2011"
After more than a quarter of a century in publication, Best
Lawyers is designating " Lawyers of the Year" in high-
profile legal specialties in legal communities. Only a single
lawyer in each specialty is being honored as the "Lawyer of the
Year." The lawyers being honored as "Lawyers of the Year"
have received particularly high ratings in our surveys by earning a high
level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
Harvey received his J.D. Boston University in 1974 and his B.A. at Clark University in 1968.
After college he served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in Brazil. He has been an
adjunct professor at Northeastern University School of Law for over 25 years. He has also
taught the immigration law course at Harvard Law School. Harvey has been named in Best
Lawyers in America from 1991 to present. He was the recipient of the American Immigration
Lawyers Association (AILA) first Mentor Award in 1992. Harvey received multiple awards from
the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild for excellence in the
practice of immigration law including the Third Annual Carol King Award and, together with partners
Maureen O'Sullivan and Jeremiah Friedman, the Daniel Levy Award in 2007).
In 2002 he received, along with Maureen O'Sullivan, AILA's 2002 Elmer Fried Award of Excellence
in teaching immigration law. Harvey received a Certificate of Appreciation from the
Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
recognizing his commitment and dedication to immigrant workers and families affected by the
immigration raids in New Bedford, MA, where 361 workers were arrested. He also received the
Outstanding Immigration Lawyer Award from the Brazilian Immigration Center.
